With co-funding from ADEY FOUNDATION, Educo Bangladesh has been implementing the project entitled From work to school: Education, training & protection for children Involved in hazardous work in the coastal areas of Bangladesh” from January 2021 aiming to eliminate hazardous child labour and exploitation in dry fish processing and supply chain of shrimp and crab industries. The project has been implemented by two partner organizations i.e., POPI in Sadar Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district and Uttaran in Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira district. The project is a continuation of Educo’s internal funded previous project. Major interventions of the project are:

1) Basic education

2) Vocational training

3) Awareness raising campaign and

4) Advocacy with local government and administrations.

Recently Uttaran has organized a Job Fair at Shyamnagar, Satkhira. The main purpose of the job fair was to create job opportunities for the children who have completed vocational training. The program was presided over by UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer) Shyamnagar, Satkhira. Children, adolescents and youths, parents, Local Government representative, Govt. Officials from Upazila level and other relevant stakeholders participated in the fair.

A total of 10 employers from industrial sewing and engine mechanic have participated in the event. The employers had setup separate stalls in the job fair and the trained children displayed their products. After interviewing 50 trained children, the employers have selected 30 and asked them to contact at their workplaces for job placement. As of now, 5 children have already placed in job and rests are on process of job placement. From 2021 to July 2022 a total number of 75 children (combinedly at Cox’s Bazar and Satkhira) have been placed in decent jobs.
