Mohima Pahan, is a 17-year-old resident of the west Ghonoshyampur village, Thakurgaon. Being from a less privileged family and a part of an indigenous community, Mohima has faced various discriminations throughout her school and college life. She felt so humiliated that she did not want to continue going to school at one point and felt the urgency of creating awareness against such discriminations.

As a result, she helped form an Adolescent & Youth (A&Y) club of 50 members with the support of Educo Bangladesh, to bring about social change within the community. She was chosen to be the secretary of the club. They took part in a variety of unique and interesting events under her leadership, including debate competitions and awareness campaigns for Covid-19. She also worked as a Community Resource Teacher-CRT of her community as a part of the Primary Education project.  As a result of all the trainings on Life skills education & Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Rights, Governance & Leadership along with her participation in the campaigns, she gained immense confidence and the courage to raise her voice against discrimination.

Mohima said, “I yearn for a society which is discrimination and violence free. I dream that the society will welcome the indigenous community as same as any other community present within it, and will provide equal rights and opportunities. Educo’s A&Y club, has not only helped me to realize my rights, but also gave me the confidence to stand for what is right. I, now have the courage to speak out against discrimination.” Mohima’s path towards a world without discrimination may be long and winding but is not impossible.
