Since 2017, Ismot ara, a 14-year-old girl, has been living in Camp 17, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The violence and fear of persecution they faced in her hometown Mungdou, caused her family to flee from Myanmar. Immediately after her arrival in Bangladesh, she had to live on the streets before settling down at Camp-17. While explaining that phase of her life, she said, “I was very depressed. I used to stay at home quietly and cry constantly”.

One day, the training instructor of Educo Multi-Purpose Center (MPC) paid a visit at Ismot’s house and talked to Ismot and her parents about the MPC, informed them about the plan of Educo. Being convinced, they agreed to send Ismot to the MPC. Ismot said, “I had many friends in Myanmar, I used to cry more whenever I remembered them. But I spend good time at the MPC now. I have found new friends here.”

Eventually, Ismot decided to learn tailoring at Educo’s MPC. She has received the sewing training and now she knows the basics of sewing. She told us with excitement that, “I have learnt cutting and sewing. I can make baby frocks, fatua, salwar etc. by myself now!”.

When Ismot was asked about how this training has helped her, she shared her joy saying, “from my childhood, I have seen my mother sewing. When I used to go play outside, sometimes my dresses got ripped and my mother used to sew them. I feel good that I can do that now myself. Also, this has helped me get out of the constant sadness that I used to have. I feel that I am learning and growing every day that I am at the MPC. I am indebted to Educo for this opportunity”. Needless to say, Ismot is one of the brightest learners of the MPC of Educo at Camp-17.
